PLM and range maintenance
Like the development of the car, the range maintenance process plays a key function within the product life cycle and related processes known as PLM (Product Lifecycle Management). The key is to keep up to date with the standards required by an ever-changing market and, at the same time, improve the quality of the finished product.

Cost reduction, model updating, and resolution of customer-reported problems are the main themes of range maintenance activities.
Placed in the period after market introduction, this activity runs throughout much of the product life cycle and is concentrated in the growth, maturity and subsequent end-of-production phases, impacting different aspects and components of the car.
The main themes include cost reduction, the introduction of structural changes, any updates on the model aimed at improving or expanding existing functionality, and the resolution of defects found in the post-production stages.
Therefore, the scope of the activity is wide and varied and requires versatile skills to be adequately managed. Typically, work is done on several structural components, from the body to the frame, up to and including interior and exterior finishes.
Updates to assembly stages are not uncommon, as are interventions that become necessary in light of regulatory changes or new materials used for production.
